A SERIES OF PHOTOGRAPHY RESEARCH RESIDENCIES IN ENGLAND AND FINLAND 2003 – 2009

Jari Silomaki, Toby Glanville, Renja Leino, David Spero

Over this six year period Fotonet managed a series of four International Research Residencies in association with the Northern Photographic Centre, Oulu, Finland.

The aim of these Research Residencies was to give the artists the opportunity to live abroad with time to research new work and further develop on-going projects. There was no commitment to produce work for exhibition or publication. However, since each artist created new work which was developed from their residencies, exhibitions were organised by The Winchester Gallery with Fotonet and then shown at The Northern Photographic Centre, Oulu. Three publications were produced – Jari Silomaki My Weather Diary, My Unopened Letters; Toby Glanville Finland Stations; Renja Leino Just Anybody – all available from Fotonet, see below.

This website exhibition shows a selection of the work by each artist with accompanying published texts and in David Spero’s case, a review in Source magazine.

For these Research Residencies, Fotonet was funded by Arts Council England, The Finnish Institute, FRAME.
